Mysore, India – yogis’ asylum

This is my second trip to India. After visiting Rishikesh, Morjim (Goa) and Mumbai I am now in Mysore.

What brought me here? Again yoga. If you are an ashtangi at some point you may want to go to Mysore to study in the famous KPJAYI. It is the ashtanga yoga institute founded by Shri K. Pattabhi Jois – now run by his grandson Sharath Jois.

I will not go into details about applying and getting accepted. The fact is – I am here. I tried 3 times and finally I made it.

I stay in Gokulam 3rd Stage where the school is – It is quit nice district, maybe a little posh as for India.

I did some sightseeing finally (for the first time there was no rain for the whole day). Here are the places I visited. πŸ™‚

1. Mysore Palace

Absolutely beautiful – I was amazed by this place. All the practical info atΒ the official website.Β Entry is 50 rupees. At the entrance there is a stand with the information which audiobook you can download. I did that – was really cool to listen, many interesting facts about the palace – without audiobook it is kind of pointless. Unless you just want to take selfies. πŸ˜‰ Oh and you walk barefoot. πŸ˜‰

2.Β Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav SangrahalayaΒ – museum

I went there by accident – I just went out of the Mysore Palace and walked around. It is really quiet place – no one was there at the time of my presence. Nice art, sculptures – not many pieces but it’s worth visiting. Entrance is free.

3. Food

Puri – Β masala puri and bhelpuri are my favorite – all about puris you can watch in the video I posted in my article about Mumbai –Β Love big cities? Let’s meet one of the biggest cities in the world – Mumbai!

Gobi roll – Indian sandwich with cauliflower filling. Soooo good.

Masala chai – the best with a biscuit in a local chai place.

Masala dosa – the Best at Hotel Vinayaka Mylari (Shop No. 79, Nazarbad Main Road, Doora)

Absolutely amazing – crispy but at the same time puffy and light. Perfectly seasoned filling accompanied by coconut chutney.

I could eat only there.

Oh and it cost 40 rupies.

4. Karanji Kere Lake Park & Boating

Lots of birds, quiet – No Honking πŸ˜‰, romantic – mainly couples. It is a Cool place to go if you want to enjoy nature and escape the loud Mysore.

4. Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery

While the building itself is not maintained Well the collection it hides is just stunning.

Beautiful oil paintings, chairs, hancrafted items, modern paintings.

Also they are working on an audiobook – which I could test! Lucky me.

More to come!

An update on where to go and What to see later this month.

Yoga mat perfect for ashtanga? I do have it.

First things first. My new yoga mat. πŸ™‚

JOY in me is a polish brand that produces mainly yoga mats. The mats are made ofΒ 100% biodegradable & recyclable tree rubber base and ultra-absorbent, soft suede top. Printed with water based inks.

I personally don’t like one-color mats, colorfull ones are my favourite. JOY in me has many beautiful prints – you will have a hard time choosing only one. πŸ˜‰

I thought the mat will be a little slippery at the beginning but no. It has the perfect grip. The thickness is right also – my spine really appreciate it when I’m rolling.

What is really important for me is that you can wash it in a washing machine. πŸ™‚

Here are some general information about the mat:

Length: 183 cm

Width: 63 cm

Thickness: 3 mm

Weight: 2.4 kg

Shop or get the details.

I aslo have their water bottle.

I made an experiment – I filled the bottle with hot water and left it for a night – in the morning water was still warm!!! The bottle is also really light.

Capacity – 500 ml. Made out of stainless steal. And also beautiful right?

If you like their products shop online and use the discount – 15% – just put ‘whynot’ in a discount code field.

Testing new yoga mat from Yoga Design Lab

Santa gave me the best gift ever!

After 5 years – since I started yoga – I changed my mat. And that is a change with a big C.

The mat looks exactly like on the pictures at the website – YogaDesignLab.

It is a travel mat so you can not only roll it but also fold it. It comes with a carrying strap. It’s super thin and can be used as a towel or on it’s own. I used it on a wooden floor and was too thin for me, maybe it is a matter of time and I will get used to it, my old mat was really thick.

The mat is eco-friendly, biodegradable, recyclable 100%, it weighs only 900g. Also you can wash it in washing machine.

I will update this post after using it more.

For now – enjoy your practice!
